Learning to count is more than just saying the names of numbers. Matching a number to an object is called one-to-one correspondence. This a skill that children learn with practice. You can find many things for your child to count throughout the day like socks, fingers, fruit in a bowl, or cars in a parking lot.
Keep practicing, counting is matching numbers with objects, not just saying the numbers, so whenever you can, count things with your child and ask your child to count, too.
