Auditory Discrimination is the ability to hear and understand the differences between sounds that are similar, and interpreting what the different sounds mean.
Developing this skill will help children as they learn to read and begin to hear and tell the difference between the different sounds that the letters of the alphabet make.
Some ideas to help your preschooler begin to develop Auditory Discrimination:
Singing songs like "Old MacDonald" and talking about the sounds different animals make.Singing "The Wheels on the Bus" and talking about the names of different types of transportation, pretending to be the different types of transportation and letting your child draw them. Talking about the sounds different household item make, for example clocks and phones.
