How does playing help my child learn?

Play is a child’s work. Many of the materials and activities used in your child’s preschool classroom use play as a means to help children learn new skills and concepts. Play provides a fun and engaging context for children to learn about the world around them. Through play children have the opportunity to explore, observe, experiment and problem solve new ideas.
For example, the water table in you child’s classroom supports children’s physical, cognitive and social-emotional growth.
When children pour water into containers, they are learning physical dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Children learn social skills when they play with other children while washing dolls and blowing bubbles. And exploring scientific concepts such as why certain objects sink or float at the water table, supports children’s cognitive development.
